HAROLD RUBIN (CLARINET)
Harold Rubin was born in Johannesburg S Africa in 1932.
Considered as one of the great modern day Clarinet players,
Jazz musician, artist, teacher, and architect. Harold studied classical clarinet. He formed a jazz quartet in South Africa and was responsible for organizing communication between black and white musicians for some years before he immigrated to Israel in 1963.
In 1986 he was a founding member of the Zaviot quartet with Mark Smulian, Reuben Hoch and Tommy Bellman. Zaviot performed original music, which received a prize at The Red Sea Jazz Festival 1987. The group performed in festivals and jazz clubs in Europe from 1987 to 1989. Harold developed various groups performing in all major festivals in Israel. 6 albums of his music have been released and he has taken part in others as a guest.
He has performed in Europe, The U.S.A. and South Africa. .
He was one of the founders of the Tel Aviv Art Ensemble and still worked for many years with the group.
He was awarded the Landau prize for the performing arts in 2007.
Harold passed away on April 1, 2020 and left an incredible wealth of both music and art to the world!
